Sedation Dentistry

Experiencing some anxiety when you go to the dentist is expected. However, if you have been avoiding the dentist due to anxiety, chances are your oral health may not be in the best shape.

When you make a visit to Southern Dental Group of Munford, you will find a calming, relaxing atmosphere as soon as you walk through the door. Our staff is ready to serve you and help you feel at ease. We understand the apprehension some people feel when they need dental treatments. Sedation dentistry helps the hyper-anxious patient relax so they can get the dental care that is required.

We provide a variety of sedation methods for our patients who need additional help to feel at ease in the dental chair. Your oral health is very important. Anxiety and fear should not keep you from attaining dental care. Our commitment to providing our patients with excellent oral care extends to helping them feel comfortable and calm during exams and procedures.

Oral Conscious Sedation

For those who are overly anxious, we have oral conscious sedation. This provides a very comfortable visit in which you remain awake. Your nerves are calmed and you may feel groggy. With this type of sedation, it is important to have someone drive you home after the dental treatments are completed. It is not safe to drive or operate machinery for a while after oral conscious sedation. When the sedation wears off after a few hours, you will feel back to normal.

Nitrous Oxide

This form of sedation has been around for over one hundred years and is the sedation of choice for children and those who need just a little help to relax. Nitrous Oxide is also known as laughing gas. Some people may doze off during its use. Once the dental procedure is completed, your system will be flushed with oxygen. This sedation does not have the groggy after-effects of oral conscious sedation.

Let us know if you feel you need sedation. We will need to take a complete health history. Please be prepared to let us know of all the medications and supplements you are taking. If you are opting for oral conscious sedation, please make arrangements for someone to accompany you home. We want our patients to have a safe and relaxing experience at Southern Dental Group of Munford. Contact us today to schedule an appointment.
